David Peretz recent book Sailing For The Empire: Slavery, Piracy and Tradeis the first major account of an important part of the life of the naval officer who played an important part in the expansion and management of the British Empire and rose to be the eminent Admiral Sir John Corbett, KCB, (1822-1893) and became Commander-in-Chief in the East Indies and at the Nore.
Prof. Andrew Lambert
Andrew Lambert is Laughton Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies at King's College. After completing research in the Department he taught at what is now the University of West of England, the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. His work focuses on the naval and strategic history of the British Empire between the Napoleonic Wars and the First World War and addresses a range of issues, including technology, policy-making, regional security, deterrence, historiography, crisis-management and conflict.
David Peretz
David Peretz, CB worked for HM Treasury and retired as Under Secretary for International Finance and G7 Financial Sherpa in 1998. After 1998 he worked as a consultant to the World Bank and IMF and other international organizations. From 2016 to 2019 he served as chair of Bermuda’s independent Fiscal Responsibility Panel. His mother, April, and stepmother, Margaret (his mother’s cousin), were both John Corbett’s grand-daughters.
Vicky Pryce
Vicky is the Chair of the Fellows at Radix Big Tent and a leading economist whose career includes being Director General for Economics at the Department for BIS, Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service and Chief Economist and Partner at KPMG. She is currently Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research. She is also Chair of the Economic Advisory Council for the British Chambers of Commerce and a visiting Professor at KCL and BCU. She is co-founder of GoodCorporation, a company set up to advise on Corporate Social Responsibility.
