What does the rise of the Asian superstate mean for the future? Meet the Leaders with Sir Vince Cable
Join economist and former MP Vince Cable -- former Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, President of the Board of Trade, and Leader of the Liberal Democrats -- in conversation with Chair of Radix Big Tent, Vicky Pryce at an interactive Radix Big Tent ‘Meet the Leaders’ webinar at 6:00pm on Thursday 5th February.
Their wide ranging discussion will centre around Vince’s new book,Eclipsing the West: China, India and the forging of a new world. Having followed China and India for decades, Vince explores how both countries will navigate their growing roles on the world stage; what are the implications for commerce, international law and the fight against climate change?
Vince Cable was Lib Dem MP for Twickenham for 20 years (1997-2015 and 2017-19) and retired in 2019. He was Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills in the Coalition government and President of the Board of Trade from 2010-15. He was Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2017-19 and previously Acting and Deputy Leader.
Before entering politics he was an economist working in business as Shell’s Chief Economist; in international organisations and academic roles.
He is currently Visiting Professor at the LSE, Nottingham and Shenzhen Universities; Distinguished Fellow at ODI Global and has business commitments as Chair of Element 2, the hydrogen company, and of the eFreight2030 consortium.
As an author his most recent books include: Eclipsing the West; The Chinese Conundrum; How to be a Politician; Money and Power; The Storm and After the Storm (and a novel, Open Arms).
Vicky Pryce
Vicky Pryce is the Chair of Radix Big Tent and a leading economist, whose career includes being Director General for Economics at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service, and Chief Economist and Partner at KPMG. She is currently Chief Economic Adviser and board member at the Centre for Economics and Business Research. Vicky is also Chair of the Economic Advisory Council for the British Chambers of Commerce and a visiting Professor at King’s College, London and Birmingham City University. In addition, she is co-founder of GoodCorporation, a company set up to advise on Corporate Social Responsibility.
