The Radix Big Tent Resilient Democracy Network was formed in 2025 from an earlier loose coalition of organisations and individuals, intent on holding Labour to their pre-election commitments on ethics and integrity. The network now comprises over 40 organisations including civil society, charities, campaigners, research institutes, and legal support with the current primary aim of ensuring that the upcoming Elections Bill is robust, protecting and enhancing UK democracy to future-proof it against external influence.
Achievements
The Resilient Democracy conference held in February at St George’s House and hosted with Unlock Democracy and Compassion in Politics, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust brought together campaigning organisations in the civil society sector such as Spotlight on Corruption, Transparency International and Open Britain together with moving beyond the ‘usual suspects’ and involving the CBI, the Chambers of Commerce, Greenpeace and the RSPB. 5 campaign streams were agreed for the network to work together on as detailed in the Resilient Democracy report.
It was announced in July that Votes at 16 and AVR (automatic voter registration) will be included as measures in the upcoming Elections Bill, both of which are areas that RBT and the Resilient Democracy have been campaigning on.
A follow-up conference was held at The Friends Meeting House in September 2025 to focus on the Elections Bill and where to campaign as a group. Guest speakers included parliamentarians from the three major parties.
It was agreed that the key areas for the network to work on as a group are the issues surrounding political funding and the independence of the electoral commission as well as ensuring that promises around votes at 16 and AVR are kept.
RBT brings the campaign strands and organisations together through shared information storage, whatsapp and email channels and regular meetings allowing the group to work together more easily on:
