Howarth's new book, Being Liberal: The Liberal Disposition in Contemporary British Politics, argues that Liberalism is less a set of theories than a disposition, made up of seven traits including openness, a distrust of bombast and hierarchy, and a taste for compromise. He builds the case from the lives of the Liberal and Liberal Democrat leaders and figures he has known over 50 years, weaknesses included.

David Howarth is Professor of Law and Public Policy at Cambridge, Fellow of Clare College, former Liberal Democrat MP and Shadow Justice Secretary, former UK Electoral Commissioner, and erstwhile long time member of the Liberal Democrat Federal Policy Committee.
Vicky Pryce
Vicky Pryce is the Chair of Radix Big Tent and a leading economist and author, whose career includes being Director General for Economics at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service, and Chief Economist and Partner at KPMG after senior positions in banking and the energy sector. She is currently Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research. Vicky is also Chair of the Economic Advisory Council for the British Chambers of Commerce and a visiting Professor at King’s College, London. She is a patron of Pro-Bono Economics and was co-founder of GoodCorporation, a company set up to advise on business ethics.
