Diversifying Investment Flows: How can we rebalance UK pension flows dominated by the US?

Webinar date: Thursday 10th September, 12.00pm to 1.00pm.

Radix Big Tent's investment systems programme, New Capital Consensus, are delighted to invite you to a webinar on how the UK can rebalance it's US-dominated institutional capital flows.

This session will delve into the systemic factors that drive UK pension funds overseas and the affect this has on the domestic investment system and outcomes for pensioners.

NCC's recent report 'Diversifying Investment Flows: How to rebalance US-dominated capital flows' synthesises a series of cross-industry workshops and diagnoses a structural failure within the UK investment system. It finds that national savings are being systematically routed into overseas, predominantly US-based, securities and unproductive secondary markets - at the expense of domestic infrastructure, housing and energy projects.

The report points out as an example that, if a UK DC pension fund is invested in the MSCI World Index, it funnels more money to Apple Inc (5.5%) than the whole of the UK economy (3.8%) on any given day.

Alan Livsey (Pensions Editor, Financial Times) will speak to Simon Ellis (Chair of a major DC Master Trust) and Ashok Gupta (Director, New Capital Consensus) to ask the questions: is UK to US capital flow a problem? What can the government, regulators and industry do to change this? What is the best outcome for both savers and UK society? What are the risks of both action and inaction?

The session will last 1 hour and speakers will take questions throughout.
