Ithaca to Number 10: What The Odyssey Can Teach Us About Andy Burnham's Homecoming

aavp2

Webinar date: Tuesday 11th August, 6.00PM

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has put Homer back on the big screen, and Andy Burnham's own long journey home, via Greater Manchester, a by-election and a landslide leadership contest, has put him in Downing Street. Please register below to join Alex Andreou, broadcaster, journalist and host of the acclaimed Podyssey podcast, and Vicky Pryce, Chair of Radix Big Tent, for another interactive Radix Big Tent Meet the Leaders webinar at 6.00pm on Tuesday 11th August.

Alex Andreou has spent years unpicking Ancient Greece for modern audiences on Podyssey, tracing how the myths, monsters and homecomings of Homer's world still shape the way we think about power, leadership and return. Odysseus's journey did not end when he reached Ithaca's shore: the suitors were still in his hall, his authority still had to be won back, and the island he returned to was not the one he had left. Sound familiar?

Andy Burnham has completed his own odyssey: Mayor of Greater Manchester, twice-defeated leadership contender, and now, after the Makerfield by-election and 379 nominations from his colleagues, Prime Minister. But as any reader of Homer knows, arriving home is only ever the halfway point. What does Burnham's homecoming tell us about the trials still ahead? Join Alex and Vicky as they draw on 3,000 years of storytelling about power and return to explore the tests now facing Britain's new Prime Minister.

We invite you to register below and join Alex and Vicky at this important interactive discussion, 6.00-7.00pm, Tuesday 11th August.
