What’s Broken in Whitehall and Can It Be Fixed? Meet the Leaders with Caroline Slocock and Vicky Pryce

CSVPMTL

Webinar date: Thursday 8th October, 6.00pm

From the corridors of Downing Street under Thatcher and Blair to a career spent pushing government to work better from the outside, Caroline Slocock has spent four decades watching Whitehall up close. Please register below to join Caroline, author of the newly published Bad Government (And How to Make It Better), and Vicky Pryce, Chair of Radix Big Tent, for another interactive Radix Big Tent Meet the Leaders webinar at 6.00pm on Thursday 8th October.

Part memoir, part manifesto, Bad Government draws on Caroline’s decades at the top of Whitehall, as a civil servant in the Cabinet Office and Treasury under both Thatcher and Blair, to explain why British politics so often fails to deliver, and what could be done differently. ‘She knows where the bodies are buried,’ writes John Crace in The Guardian. ‘Bad Government is required reading for everyone interested in why UK politics feels broken.’

Join Vicky and Caroline as they discuss what four decades inside and alongside government reveal about the changes Britain needs now.

We invite you to register below and join Vicky and Caroline at this important interactive discussion, 6.00-7.00pm, Thursday 8th October.

Caroline Slocock

Caroline was a former private secretary to two Prime Ministers, the first woman in that role and the only other woman in the room when Thatcher resigned.  As a civil servant in the Cabinet Office and Treasury under Thatcher and Blair, she introduced long-lasting reforms and championed advances in childcare in the Department of Education and in gender equality as Chief Executive of the Equal Opportunities Commission.  She has since been working with government from the outside to deepen its connection to civil society and improve public services and strengthen democracy.  She is also the author of People Like Us: Margaret and Me, and a regular commentator in the media.

Vicky Pryce

Vicky Pryce is the Chair of Radix Big Tent and a leading economist, whose career includes being Director General for Economics at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service, and Chief Economist and Partner at KPMG.
