Housing Commission
In Spring 2024, with the support of Shoosmith’s LLP, Radix Big Tent set up its Housing Commission, chaired by Dame Kate Barker, to better understand the housing shortage and make recommendations for reform.
Comprising a cross-industry, multi-disciplinary group of expert members, the Commission prepared a report to help the new
Government identify early practical reforms to deliver on its housing target of 1000 homes per day.
The report was covered throughout the media and was widely praised and at the Parliamentary launch the Housing Minister,
Matthew Pennycook described it as an “incredible and important contribution to the debate”. A number of its specific recommendations have since been adopted by the Government.
Radix Big Tent has now set up its Housing Commission Leaders Group (HCLG) to look at further issues. The HCLG comprises all the existing commissioners other than Dame Barker, who has joined the Government’s New Towns Taskforce. The HCLG is therefore now chaired by housing policy expert, Alex Notay, and is supported financially by a number of corporate members who attend meetings in return.
